pony at the park
The next day excursion, velvet and Bob had been talking about going to the park for a while but so far had never made it. On Saturday, out of the blue, Bob says “we’re going to the park this morning.” Obviously this wasn’t a choice for velvet; it was a statement of what we were going to do. velvet was both nervous and excited. Would there be people there? Would they get harassed? Many people had warned them about doing pony play in public- they felt the cops would certainly be involved and make a big deal out of everything. Would they end up on YouTube under the label of “freaks?” Would there be kids who would try to pet her? velvet wasn’t sure how she would act since they’ve mostly just played in the back yard. All kinds of scenarios went through her head as they gathered their things together.
They got all their stuff loaded into the car and drove to the park. Even though it was Saturday, the park was pretty much deserted. I guess it was due to the 104 degree temperature outside. We drove to the back of the property and picked a nice spot under the trees. They unloaded the cart and their gear and set everything up. Bob let her have a banana so she would have energy to burn and then it was time for fun. He groomed her a little and then put on he bridle, bit and harness. They started with a longe line warm up so her muscles could stretch and get ready for hard use. He then attached her to the cart and away they went!
It was so much fun carting in the open under beautiful, majestic trees! Even though it was incredibly hot, there was plenty of shade and even a slight breeze. As she walked around, all my “human” cares and troubles seemed to melt away. she wasn’t thinking about work or bills or any of the other mundane chatter that seems to constantly babble in her head. All she thought about was carting and pony play. Were her legs coming up high enough? Was her head up in the air instead of staring at her feet? Was she pulling the cart fluidly or was her rider getting bumped and jangled too much? velvet became hyper-aware of the reins attached to her bridle and could feel the slight tugs that meant Bob wanted to go in a different direction. It was an exhilarating, freeing experience!
No one bothered them or even seemed to look at them. Some people came and picked a spot about 100 feet away and started throwing knives at trees. They barely even glanced at them. An elderly couple on bicycles drove by and velvet swear the one yelled at the other in a“hey, look over there” kind of way. she couldn’t hear what they said and really wasn’t paying attention anyway. Other than that, they didn’t seem to get any attention; even the cars that drove by didn’t slow down or come back for a second look. Maybe they’re used to ponies in the park! What a wonderful thought- that maybe there’s another pony in the area that has made this kind of sight a regular occurrence.
They were at the park around two hours and played for probably 1-1.5 hours. Obviously, they both lost track of time. Bob kept her well hydrated and gave her plenty of breaks, for which she was grateful. After carting they did some ground driving and then took pictures. They finished with some light grooming and lots of praise. It was a wonderful play session and I’m so glad we did it!
