D-Day 70th Anniversary!

June 5, 2014: World War II veteran Fred Holborn, from the Fleet Air Arm, salutes as he looks at British Legion Union flags carrying “thank you” messages planted in the sand on Gold Beach near Asnelles, France, on June 5. About 20,000 paper flags are being planted, each one with a personal message of remembrance submitted by Royal British Legion supporters. June 6 marks the 70th anniversary of the D-Day landings, during which 156,000 Allied troops -- including the United Kingdom & United States -- joined forces to launch an audacious attack on the beaches of Normandy. The surge led to the eventual surrender of Nazi Germany.
